GHS Cross Country Summer Program

Unless circumstances dictate otherwise, all cross country athletes are to participate in the summer program. This is due to the fact that it takes time for your body to become accustomed to running, plus cross country is a fall sport. Waiting to start at the begining of school will cause an athlete to miss some early season races.

Before you begin the program, you need to get the athletic paperwork completed. The link for this is on the Cross Country homepage.

Our summer cross country program begins on June 12. It continues until the start of school in August. It is recommended that you come to the June 11 parent information meeting. (see CC homepage) If you miss it, then just come to the first workout afterwards.

Time will be from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Weekdays and 7:30 am to 9:30 am on Saturdays.


From June 12 to June 30, ALL members will work out MTWTH, and all workouts will be at GHS.

After June 30, returning runners will workout MTWTHFS while new runners will workout MTWTHF. At the begining of August, new runners will add Saturday workouts. We will alternate between Verdugo Park and Griffith Park, with one day a week here at GHS. A workout schedule will be posted on this website for you to keep track.

We ask that all members help our program by contributing a summer donation of $65. A small portion of these donations goes to district summer overhead, while the bulk of the rest goes right into our program and helps us get needed items for the season.



IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to make as many of these workouts as you can and on a consistant basis. You cannot make up workouts the next day. You need to convince your body that this is an everyday activity or your body will not make the changes you need to get better and you increase your chance of injury. So, unless it is a family activity or your are on vacation out of the city, make every effort to make these workouts.
